Occasionally I've seen maps of Italy which have everything in Italian except the Piemonte region will be shown as Piedmont. My understanding is that Piedmont is an English word. Do Italians use Piemonte and Piedmont interchangeably or is this just some weirdness on these maps? Thanks.
Our Reply: I think it is just some weirdness as in Italy everyone say Piemonte and many people wouldn't even know the name Piedmont. We always refer to Piedmont on our websites because it is the name that the world knows.
You'll sometimes see the same with Tuscany, with websites and maps referring to it as Tuscany rather than Toscana, while the rest of the map uses the Italian names. One other example is Milan, commonly used on map instead of Milano.
